Grants

Through the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund, the State Archives offers grants to local governments (including all public schools, teacher centers and BOCES) for the Educational Use of Local Government Records. Projects involve teachers and/or students researching local government records to develop learning materials for classroom instruction and special projects.

Publications:

Consider the Source: Historical Records in the Classroom. This 146-page book is one of the first major publications to introduce the use of historical records as source material for classroom instruction. Erie Canal: New York’s Gift to the Nation, A Document-based Teacher Resource
A book from the New York State Archives Partnership Trust and Cobblestone Publishing that tells the story of the Erie Canal from an idea in the late 18th century, through its construction and enlargements, to its present use as a recreation-way.  It includes: ninety-seven documents, concise historical background essays written by historians, and learning activities for the classroom that were developed by teachers to meet New York State's learning standards and assessments. www.archives.nysed.gov/a/nysaservices/ns_educational

The award-winning New York Archives Magazine currently stands as the only regular, non-academic publication uniquely focused on the history of New York State.
