Web Resources for Teachers and Students

Throughout the Ages
a visual educational resource, correlates with the State Education Department's publication Social Studies Instructional Strategies and Resources: Pre-Kindergarten Through Grade 6. Throughout the Ages offers more than 250 digital images of historical photographs, letters, broadsides, maps, and paintings. The Legacies Project
focuses on the history of Chinese and Latino populations in the Capital District, Buffalo, Syracuse, Yonkers and New York City. It contains concise histories of the Chinese and Latino communities in each city and document-based activities. The histories and activities include definitions and important vocabulary terms and are illustrated with both historical and contemporary documents and photographs. This project promotes learning and literacy through the use of historical records and is an outgrowth of a New York State Archives-funded project at Liberty High School in New York City.  www.archives.nysed.gov/projects/legacies

Erie Canal Time Machine
examines the Erie Canal from 1825 to 1918. It was developed for use by students in grades 4-8. The site contains information, documents, and document-based questions relating to the opening of the Canal in 1825, life and work on the canal in the mid-nineteenth century, and the creation of the Barge Canal in 1918. www.archives.nysed.gov/projects/eriecanal

New York’s Electoral College
